I was looking into renting this dress and am having troubles deciding on the size. My size varies from a 4 to a 6 because my hips and butt are bigger. But my waist is unproportional to my hips running at a size 27'', plus I am planning to work out so I am hoping that my waist will drop another inch in time for prom. But I was curious as to what waist you are since you mention it was tight around the gold area. Thanks :)

Hi Aditi, the dress is not fit in the hips at all so you should be fine ordering a 4 in this style since that is more equivalent to your waist measurement! 

I loved this dress - got so many compliments! I'm usually a 4 and ordered the 4R and it JUST fit (tight around the gold area). If you're wearing shoes higher than 3", get a long size, too.
